Welcome To KB Advising

KB Advising, LLC (KBA) is a Native American and minority owned small business certified by the State of Texas. Founded by Stephen Kaerwer and Juan Bossano in 2020, we set out to help communities recover from major disasters by leveraging the major federal disaster recovery programs. We have had the opportunity to assist clients with a wide variety of needs including, FEMA’s Public Assistance (PA), FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), HUD’s Community Development Block Grant Program – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR), and FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES), and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Our Story

Having had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of companies and clients over our careers, we had often thought about starting a company that was built around the best elements we have seen in those we worked alongside. While we have had the privilege of working with some great companies, we passionately believe that the private sector can work to become better partners to clients that are trying to navigate the complexities of grant administration. We wanted to start a company that could play a small role in better supporting all grant recipients and, as Stephen is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma whose family was supported by the Tribe, we hoped this company would bring a particular focus on supporting the Tribal Nations that are not well served by the industry.

As we saw the Covid pandemic disrupting so many of our lives, it became obvious that this was the right time to found KB Advising and begin to support local and state governments with their CARES and ARPA grants. KB Advising was able to bring a team of experts to help navigate these completely new grant programs that helped our clients remain adaptable and flexible to the changes in policy that came as these programs matured.

As the nation moves through the pandemic, KB Advising not only continues to work on these grants, but has also had the opportunity to turn some focus back to other needs around the country in disaster recovery and building resilience to climate events. Throughout all of our work, we have been able to build success on a foundation of understanding our clients’ needs, delivering on our promises, and remaining within the budgetary constraints of the project.

What We Do

KB Advising is a professional consulting firm that specializes in obtaining federal grants, specifically in FEMA Public Assistance (PA), FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), FEMA Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), HUD Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR), HUD CDBG-Mitigation (CDBG-MIT), and COVID Relief Programs (CARES and ARPA). Once the federal grants are written and approved, KBA project and program manages these grants for our clients, listening to their needs and providing organized, efficient, and successful project management to remain under budget, on time, and in compliance with all federal regulations.
